Visit to Tunisia

A visit to Tunisia can be a really wonderful experience. When you visit to Tunisia you can see well-preserved Roman ruins, Carthaginian settlements and also the minaret and mosaic beauty of the Muslim world. The country of Tunisia is somewhat westernized, so for people of western countries a visit to Tunisia is almost like traveling in home country.
Matmata
During your journey to Tunisia, you may consider going to Matmata. Matmata is one of the very famous villages in Tunisia. This village was the setting for the opening scenes of the film ‘Star Wars’. The village has got lunar-like landscape and subterranean cave dwellings, and this attract hundreds of visitors every day.

The Berber people dug homes in the ground over 1000 years ago to get away from the midday heat. These communities formed craters under the earth and made tunnels between some of the courtyards to build an underground labyrinth. At present Hotel Sidi Driss, which was known as the Cantina in Star Wars is still there and the visitors can spend the night in Berber style accommodation as part of the total experience.

The City of Carthage
During your Tunisia visit you can go to Carthage. The city is located on the outskirts of Tunis, which is the capital of Tunisia. Between the year 264 and 146 BC, the two great cities got involved in a series of wars that witnessed Hannibal’s famous attack on Rome, and the subsequent sacking of Carthage in the year 146 BC. When you visit here you will find theater, temples, villas and baths and so on. However, many of the sites now stand in ruins which includes the Roman Amphitheater and the thermal Antoine Baths, the largest baths built by the Romans. Visitors can have a beautiful view of Carthage by climbing the nearby Byrsa Hill
