Visit to Somalia

During your Africa tour if you are thinking of a visit to Somalia, it must be kept in mind that Somalia is one of the world's most dangerous destinations. When you visit to Somalia, travel is possible in the northern self-proclaimed Republic of Somaliland. But you can not visit Sool, southern and eastern Sanaag regions and Buhoodle districts during your journey to Somalia. These areas are in dispute with neighboring Puntland. The security is very volatile with attacks still taking place in the capital. The chances for conflict is quite high and travelers need to reconsider any plans to visit Puntland or southern Somalia.

Berbera
During your Somalia visit, the journey from Berbera to Hargeisa is very beautiful and you can find some nice sea cliffs along the coast.

Mogadishu
When you visit to Somalia, you can go to Mogadishu. As a result of the civil war all the old attractions do not remain any more, specially the most interesting ruins. The Hammawein, or Xamar Weyne, is the original city of Mogadishu and was once one of the most beautiful sights on the east coast of Africa.

Hargeisa
Hargeisa still has got the scars of decades of civil war. However, it is emerging from the problem, energized and full of good vibes. But the tourist sights are quite rare. People get very surprised to see a real tourist, so you can well be the focus of attention. Though there is a shortage of visitors, Hargeisa has a surprisingly good tourist infrastructure. It has decent hotels with English-speaking staff, nice restaurants, Internet centre, tea shops, markets and so on. It has got a free economy, and it shows this everywhere. Las Geel
Las Geel is a peaceful place that you may visit during your visit to Somalia. There are magnificent neolithic rock art paintings in nice condition which adorn the walls of several interconnected caves and shelters. Some paintings are even more than one meter in length and their state of preservation is really exceptional.
